Barnett Family Lifestyle Portraits

I am not a newborn photographer.  I leave that to the super talented newborn specialists with lots of patience and the ability to sit in a sweltering room for hours on end!  My cousins opted for more of a lifestyle family session instead of the traditional newborn session and I am glad they did!  They, as you can see, are pretty much the most adorable family and had the best light and neutral room to shoot in!  Here are a few of my favorites from our shoot and some helpful tips for a lifestyle session!!

  1. Pick neutral colors for clothing.  Babies look best in my opinion in soft light colors free from patterns or distractions.  Coordinate your colors as well, keeping everything simple.

2. Choose a room with the best light and least distractions for the bulk of the session.  The Barnett’s master bedroom worked great because we had beautiful window light as well as neutral colored walls and a reflective white comforter.  Less clutter is better!!!

3.  If you will be using multiple rooms make sure you tidy them all up so there are as few distracting elements as possible.

4.  Let the kids be themselves!  The session is about capturing you as a family in your own space and should be authentic, crazy little toddlers and all!
